All volunteers must attend mandatory training, held over two Saturdays a month apart
Training equips our volunteers with a number of skills, including:
- Essential elements of being a street chaplain
- How to engage with the public
- Strategies to deal with aggressive behaviours
- Safety strategies for everyone
- Self-care of volunteers – ie fatigue management
Volunteers are also required to be up to date with:
- Working with Children’s Card
- National Police Clearance
- Senior First Aid + CPR (HLTAID003)
- Attend observation in Perth
- Attend observation in Mandurah
Cost of Training:
The cost of training is $300.00. The fee includes; insurances; uniforms and first aid training. However, if your first aid is current a discount of $100.00 is given.
Completion of training:
You’ll be placed on monthly roster and patrol along with another volunteer from 11pm – 4am. Currently this is Saturdays, however there will also be future Friday and Day rosters available.
Once on roster, you along with team members are provided with two back packs that have our first aid and general supplies. First Aid supplies include: asthma packs; bandages; pulse reader; eye lights; saline solution and more. General bag includes: water; vomit bags; towelettes; disinfectant; thongs; sarongs; blankets; nail polish remover etc.
Ongoing and upskilling training is also offered at least once per year. We encourage all volunteers to attend these training days.
